Plastic Surgery & Cosmetic Dermatology Consults

Some questions to ask:
1- Where is the procedure being performed and is the facility accredited?
2- If done in the office-ask to see facility-check for cleanliness and also ask about qualifications of the staff.
3-Does the physician have hospital priviledges? If not why?
4-How many of these procedures/surgeries have they performed?

Site for information about results of a whole host of procedures/surgeries can be found at www.realself.com

I did not initially tell any of these physicians what I thought were problems. I allowed them free rein to tell me what “work” they thought I “needed”. Toward the end of the consult I expressed what I was willing to do. Botox at my age would be a real disaster.

    @ Catalina: since Im a medical student and we have disexed few cadaver, I saw the one with fat injection in the body (other part rather than eye though) but it was not a pretty site at all, not to mention that fat (as u quoted from the other surgeon, that doesnt supply RBC/nor oxygen) also might drop in few yrs time, so I think either collegen or anything that has ‘elastic tissue’ would do better untill that day Im sure they will come up for a better alternative than fat injection!

    @Catalina031 “I’ll go get fat from my behind put on my face LOL” thats so funny. I have enough there to fill everything that needs filling. lol I think there is lots of swelling and bruising with FG and they must “overfill” to allow for some loss. You have truly done your homework and I praise you for that. All we can do is keep on keeping on I only wish now I could control these extra 20 lbs. – at least get into my summer capris. lol

    @imsassi Cutting on my face scares me too! Am happy to hear you are happy with the fillers. I just have never felt I had the time to keep up with them. And I really don’t like needles- at least not in me :) Maybe one day soon “they” will get the autologous fat grafting to work well and I’ll go get fat from my behind put on my face LOL

    Great advice.Personally I would never have my face cut on,scares the crap out of me BUT I have been using fillers for a few years.Radiesse in the marr. lines lasted almost a year&was great,Juvederm under eyes has been there 4 over 2 yrs,tried Restylane under eyes-&did give me the”blue” tint.Love the results very much-depending on your metabolism can last 6-8 mos.Love Botox n the eye area,just gives a”fresher”look 2 upper face.downside-its is very costly& must be maintained.

    @NoraDlist …
    @NoraDlist Cosmetic Dermatologist & 2nd plastic surgeon did. Almost impossible to find someone who won’t do fillers at all as it is a steady source of income especially since the docs are not usually even doing the actual injecting. The last surgeon indicated he could do them but I was not interested in fillers due to potential side effects and temporary benefit. With the exception of autologous fat grafting which is permanent if it could be made to work correctly.

    Great vid. I saw a plastic surgeon who specializes in reconstruction from illnesses and accidents. My gen sent me to him to be sure I did not fracture my cheekbone when I fell on my face. I asked him about an eyebrow lift and smile lines and he thought I was nuts. He actually said that I don’t need anything done and continue to use what I’m using on my face cuz its working. I couldn’t believe he didn’t take advantage of my interest and refused to do any work. He gave me his card and said to con

    @ru30022 I did send that to you in a pm about an hour or so ago. I do think aging is a bigger issue for women than for men-That said- be sure to make every effort to feel great about yourself, and to put forth that attitude of confidence in the workplace. I know that may indeed not solve the problem but sure could not hurt . I do know people respond to me in a more positive way when I am more confident and positive about myself. ~hugs jan

    @hanna72861 He could afford to be honest :) which was why I selected him. I am soo glad you found it helpful. What someone “needs” is such a subjective area with plastic surgery. Not like whether one does or not need an appendix out, so makes the whole issue much more difficult for patients to know who to trust. Thank you sweetheart-xoxo jan

    @FloridaSweety I would think it would be terribly exhausting and stressful on one’s body to constantly undergo surgeries. Everyone to their own ends but professionally I have found that people who are always having surgeries or procedures are likely looking for something or needing something that won’t likely be found at a plastic surgeons office. Thanks for your input Babs! xoxo jan

    I’m 53 and I plan on aging the old fashioned way. I take care of myself, dress nicely, have my makeup on every single day, and look the very best that I can with what I have. Everybody feels differently about it though… I have a neighbor (a guy) that is constantly having things done and everytime he sees me he shows me what he had done and always says, “that’s it, I’m finished now”…. but he has said that to me like 5 times already… he never will be done. Must be exhausting! Babs

    @magicadespell56 …
    @magicadespell56 Women are under such phenomenal pressure in society and the workplace as if competence equals young. Considering anti-aging was a 30 billion dollar biz last a lot of people are not complaining. There are so few older women who I can point to and say definatively-”they have had no cosmetic procedures done” and it is hugely annoying! I don’t care if they do I just would like a level playing field-all cards on the table. Thank you Shelly-you are too very kind- xoxo jan
